Installed Galleries

This is a list of the galleries we have built. While 17 (the first and at our house) and 23 (a month later and next door at our neighbor’s), we will build a gallery for anyone who asks, though there are a few catches.

One, it needs to be either in Long Beach or relatively close to Long Beach.

Two, we do charge for materials, which is rounded up to $450 – installed in the ground as you see in the images. We do not do this as a business nor as a side-gig. Not wanting one, don’t need one… all we ask is for you to cover the costs of materials – we can provide a detailed list of what the materials cost if you question the $450. We do have a small Grant from the Arts Council, so if the $450 is a struggle, the Grant can offset it a bit. “Can’t swing the $450, how about $400 or $350?”

Three, we won’t curate your gallery. While we curate 17 and 23, any gallery we build for someone is theirs to curate as they choose. We are more than happy to send artist inquiries your way (we are booked here in our two 6-7 months out) as well as advice on how to curate and/or get artists, but it is yours to do as you want.

Four, we do not ship, have kits, or plans.

Five, we don’t build custom galleries nor do we make them bigger or whatever. What you see here is what we build. Colors of the box are either white or black. Inside walls are typically white – these are removable to allow for easy hanging and any needed repairs. Numbers and the roof can be whatever color you want as long as it comes in a spray can (the numbers come in black and some choose to let the roof rust). Oh, as to numbers… it is typically the summation of the address unless a specific number is requested or the number has already been used. Then we need to figure out something else.

Six, while the price includes a solar light, we suggest going with a low voltage option (which we can advise). The solar can work, but it is cheap and over time can become problematic.

Seven, it needs to sit on your property.

Eight, we can’t warranty the galleries, but we do build them to a high quality. G17 and 23 have been here for well over a year. They have survived storms, wind, heat, sun, cold… and show no signs of warping, leaking, or whatever. Of course nothing lasts forever, but so far so good. Oh, while any art inside is not theft-proof, we did make them reasonably secure.
